"Spirit petty"

We are sometimes surprised to discover, behind the apparently generous, bright, very intelligent, a petty mind, terribly jealous, spiteful, vindictive, an undeniable moral smallness. Its goals "noble" and "generous" proved so much less noble than it seemed at first. It seems (and this is what appears in the analysis) love revenge quietly, without witnesses, without the victim realizing it and it usually enjoys his revenge alone. And this is one reason why his conduct may seem sometimes secret, indecipherable or confusing. If the victim has survived and made it an affront, he can "play" for example, to send him a birthday letter incomprehensible, at a time away from the anniversary date, this action is incongruous to his eyes a "joke", which will be the only one to laugh or to enjoy.
